Abstract painter. Former software consultant. Studio practice since 2024.
Biography
Ashley Ravidas is a California-based abstract painter who transitioned to full-time studio practice in 2024, following a decade in software consulting. She brings a systems-oriented approach to composition and process — a background in structured thinking that informs the methodical, almost computational precision of her paintings.
Working primarily with acrylic on canvas and paper, Ravidas employs matte medium, paint, and tape to create subtle surface ridges that produce a precise hard-edge quality. Her work centers on exploring geometry, color, and optical perception, using carefully calibrated gradients and repeated forms to generate visual effects suggesting movement, depth, and vibration across surfaces.
Ravidas draws inspiration from hard-edge geometric abstraction and minimalism from the 1960s–70s, citing artists like Ellsworth Kelly, Frank Stella, and Bridget Riley as key references. Rather than directly revisiting these historical movements, she extends them through contemporary sensibilities informed by digital thinking, restraint, and repetition.
Her practice bridges classical geometric abstraction with modern computational thinking — creating sophisticated optical experiences through disciplined material and conceptual choices. She lives and works in Los Angeles, where the quality of light and the geometry of the built environment continue to shape the work.
