Series 01
Concentric geometry tracing the path of light from darkness to radiance.
Artist statement
This series began with a question about perception: how does the eye move toward light? Each painting is built from the outside in — the darkest value at the periphery, pulling inward toward a luminous center. Acrylic on canvas, applied in careful layers with tape, creates precisely edged square rings that step through the full tonal range.
The geometry enforces stillness, but the gradients create movement — a slow drift of focus toward the center that the eye can't fully resist. Influenced by the hard-edge geometry of Ellsworth Kelly and the optical intensity of Bridget Riley, these works extend that legacy through contemporary restraint and a digital sensibility about color steps and information density.
