Series 04
Warm light, sunset heat, and the particular glow of a California afternoon.
Artist statement
Los Angeles has a specific quality of late-afternoon light — warm amber and deep orange that turns every surface into something luminous. This series is a response to living here: to the heat of the freeways, the depth of the sunsets, the way fire season changes the color of the sky. The palette moves through ember, ochre, and burnished gold.
Unlike the cooler series, these paintings carry a sense of urgency — there's something fierce and finite about the warmth they describe. The geometry is the same, the method unchanged, but the emotional register is different: these are paintings about beauty that costs something, about a city that gives and takes in equal measure.
