Artist statement

Joy as
color study

This series began from a simple observation: cocktails are color studies. A Lemon Drop is a specific yellow. An Aperol Spritz is a precise shade of amber-orange. Raspberry Ripple is that particular deep pink you only get from certain fruit syrups. Each drink has a hue as specific as a Pantone chip, and as loaded with sensory memory.

Named directly after the drinks that inspired them, these paintings use the same radial gradient language as the rest of the practice but with a looser, more celebratory energy. They are paintings about pleasure — about the particular joy of something cold and beautiful in your hand — while still maintaining the precision and restraint that runs through all of the work.
